I’ll try though to keep it brief and mix it as well as possible and Save Tonight is one of my favourite covers. 1 min for each song, although that won’t be always possible due to each song’s structure. With the 60″ song cover series I intend to perform each time approx. The song was released in 1997 and its biggest breakthrough was to reach no.5 on the Hot 100 in the US.Īnother local hit was in New Zeeland, where Save Tonight was declared song of the year in 1997.ġ997 is also the year when for the first time I heard (during MTV’s golden era) but also performed the Save Tonight cover on guitar. His discographyīy 2020 Eagle Eye Cherry released 5 albums:īesides music, he also tried to become an actor by attending the School of Performing Arts in NY, but he did not complete his studies. He is not the only artist of his family. His father was a jazz trumpet player ( Don Cherry – profile on Wikipedia), while his mother (Moki Cherry – native Swedish) is an interdisciplinary artist and designer. Eagle-Eye Cherry was born in Stockholm in 1968. The music is inspired by the idols ofhis teenage years, and shows Eagle-Eye standing firmly and confidently again after going through times of doubt. 25 years later, he releases his sixth studio album Back on Track. About Eagle Eye CherryĬherry is a Swedish singer, born on, in Stockholm, Sweden. Eagle-Eye Cherry’s career changed with the hit song Save Tonight. The solution is to make the best of that night “So take this wine and drink with me”, prolonging the time they had “let’s delay our misery” while admitting that his heart is full of regrets “But girl you know I’ve got to go Lord I wish wasn’t so”. The singer is supposed to leave the next day and this creates an emotional cascade of events: on his side “It ain’t easy to say goodbye”, while he advises his partner “Darlin’ please, don’t start to cry”. This can be understood from the beginning of the chorus: “Save tonight and fight the break of dawn”. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better. This song is about a simple yet meaningful romantic relationship and highlights that every second spent together by the couple should be cherished. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. “Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. 'Cause, girl, you know I've got to go, oh
